Greenhouse Project 2006-2008

 

We received an educational grant with Michigan State University to research fall and winter unheated greenhouse production. During the 2006-2007 winter we started learning how to produce winter salad greens for direct sales to our customers. We had a good start that first year. The 2007-2008 year, however, was disappointing due to high temperatures deep into October as many of the crops need cooler temperatures to germinate and grow slowly. Many did not come up at all, others suffered greatly, but that is farming. Starting winter 2008 we hope to be adding a heating source to increase production during the coldest months of the winter. These pictures were taken in November, 2006 showing assorted greens for salad mix.
